WHAT IS BAMBER’S Special Projects?

BAMBER’S Special Projects is a workshop and design
office - not a retail shop.
Bamber Hawes and his associates design and make
one-off bespoke furniture and other items.
We also make to the designs of others.
Work undertaken only to commission.
For small interiors work, such as a bathroom conversion
or a new kitchen layout, we will undertake project
management as well as the design.

WHAT SORT OF PROJECTS DO WE DO?

Storage (lots of storage) – shelving, cupboards,
wardrobes, library shelving, display cabinets (for home
or shops), doors, staircases, tables, and kitchens.
Free standing or fitted.

WHAT MATERIALS DO WE USE?

MDF (literally tons of it) – raw or sealed, primed,
sprayed or hand painted.
Veneered boards.
Hardwoods.
Soft woods.
Plastics, metals and glass we often get prepared by
local specialists.

UNUSUAL PROJECTS?

We help to develop designs through prototypes and
models, testing materials and finishes.
We adapt, adjust or remake existing furniture and
lighting, including repainting.
We will take on the unusual types of projects that
perhaps fall between other manufacturing or craft
disciplines, or that combine a mixture of those.

EXPERTISE AND EXPERIENCE?

Bamber, studied as a furniture designer and maker
for four years. In 1983 he came to London to make his
fortune (!) toiling in other people’s wood workshops
making anything from libraries, kitchens, to prototype
furniture…
After a couple of years he took a sidestep into making
models, props and sets and special effects for T.V.,
Ad. campaigns, videos and museums.
Ten years of that was a great training in the making of
nearly anything, but the very unreasonable demands
of the media world eventually palled, and he returned
to furniture and interiors.
